Shrink sleeve artwork has to be designed around how the film will move in the tunnel. Straight artwork on a flat file can distort around shoulders, tapers, ribs and grip panels.

Design risk
Logos, barcodes, regulatory text and small type should be positioned where the sleeve shrink is predictable. Shoulders, bases and sharp transitions need extra care.
Machine impact
Print orientation, registration marks, sleeve seam and perforation can all affect how the sleeve is fed, cut and placed by the applicator.
Avoid poor fit
Small pack or sleeve differences can change the correct applicator, mandrel, conveyor and tunnel arrangement. These checks help prevent a machine being chosen on headline speed alone.
Quote details
For a useful recommendation, send the container dimensions, filled weight, sleeve material, lay-flat, cut length, target output, photos or drawings, and where the sleeve needs to sit on the pack. If the project is going into an existing line, include available conveyor height, line direction, utilities and footprint.

Artwork approval
The artwork supplier should manage the distortion template and print proofing, while the machinery trial proves how the printed sleeve is registered, cut, placed and shrunk on the pack. Both responsibilities meet at the approved finished sample.
Identify the high-shrink zones before artwork is finalised. Shoulders, waists, corners, grip features, cap transitions and bases can move or distort copy differently from the main panel.
The artwork, registration mark and cut line must refer to the same print repeat. Confirm the reel direction and which edge leads into the applicator so the sensor and cutter act on the intended datum.
Where the container must face a particular direction, define the angular relationship between the pack feature, sleeve seam and artwork panel.
Record the film, container, tunnel recipe and line speed used for approval. A proof produced by a different tunnel or hand-shrunk sample may not represent the production result.
Scan barcodes only after the pack has cooled and use the intended inspection method. Visual appearance alone does not confirm machine readability.
