The correct line position depends on what the sleeve must cover, how the filled pack behaves and what heat or steam exposure the product and container can tolerate. Tamper bands that bridge a closure and container normally require the closure to be fitted first. Full-body sleeves may be applied to empty or filled packs only after the complete handling, thermal and inspection sequence has been qualified.

Answer in brief
A tamper band that bridges a closure and container needs the correctly fitted closure to be present before application. A full-body sleeve may be considered before or after filling only when the pack remains stable and the product, container, closure and decoration tolerate the qualified tunnel process. Wet surfaces, condensation, fill temperature and downstream inspection can all affect the correct line position.
Approve the sequence with the actual pack condition, not an assumed empty-container trial. Retain filled or representative samples, the closure application condition, pre-tunnel sleeve position, tunnel recipe, cooled result and any coding or inspection checks that occur after sleeving.

Buyer question
A tamper band is intended to bridge defined features of the closure and container, so the closure must be present and correctly seated before the band position can be controlled. Closure height, torque, skirt geometry and neck finish affect the band’s final location and opening behaviour. The capping process and tamper-band process should therefore be trialled as a connected sequence.
A band does not compensate for an incorrectly fitted closure; capping acceptance remains a separate control.
Buyer question
Empty-container sleeving can be feasible when the container is sufficiently stable and the later filling, capping, conveying and cleaning operations do not damage or move the sleeve. Lightweight packs may behave differently when empty, while later hot filling or wash-down may affect the decoration. The actual production sequence should be tested rather than assumed from an isolated sleeve sample.
Compare empty and filled handling where mass or centre of gravity changes the pack response.
Buyer question
Fill temperature can change container dimensions and stiffness, while condensation or product residue can affect handling, surface appearance and the tunnel environment. A cold pack entering a warm humid area may also create moisture that must be managed. Trial conditions should state product or water-fill temperature, container condition and time between filling, capping and sleeving.

Buyer question
The sleeve line should have agreed start, stop, ready, fault and accumulation behaviour with adjacent equipment. Product tracking, no-container logic, closure presence where relevant, downstream availability and controlled restart should be defined. Safety assessment must cover the interfaces as well as the individual machines; the UK HSE explains that the safety of an assembled line depends on the suitability of the units and their interfaces.
